Summer beauty essentials

I'm one of the biggest makeup fans I know but the thought of summer heat and a full face of product doesn't get me excited. Somedays I stick to nothing and keep it natural, but on days when I do want to feel a little glam, these are my first choices. Bonus? They're all less then $10!

Face

Rimmel's BB Cream - Radiance - $10

I have dry skin and it's such a curse. I've bounced across the brands and tried numerous foundations but I'm on my third little bottle of this stuff! There's a lot of talk about the 'magic' of BB creams and this one I stand by. It doesn't dry me out and you know that whole 'dewy' look that's all the rage? This is all you need! I apply it with my beauty blender and the coverage is quite good, no need for concealer. This is the most expensive product in this post, and $10 doesn't hurt the waller too much.

essence's Sun Club Large Bronzing Powder - $5

I am pale as pale can be, no shame. In the summer I tan a little bit, and I like to kick it up a notch with a powder bronzer. This is one of my favourites and it is faintly coconut scented, making you feel like you're on a tropical vacay.

Eyes

essence's Lash Princess False Lash Mascara - $5

I came across this by chance. I was feeling a new mascara and for only $5, how could I go wrong? This mascara doesn't clump, flake or give me the dreaded racoon eye...even when it's a little sweaty outside.

Lips

e.l.f.'s Lip Balm Tint - $3

With the dry skin comes the chapped lips, and it doesn't help I'm obsessed with lipsticks. This little gem is a lifesaver! While it doesn't smell like the flavour it suggests (I have berry & grapefruit, both smell more like vanilla) it knocks it out of the park with colour and its moisturizing powers. I'm just using a little bit of the grapefruit in the photo, but the berry stands out! And it's buildable, plus long lasting.

Same products, one taken on a bright morning and one taken on a rainy afternoon!

In the summer I'm also usually somehow way too busy to do my makeup and I know that sounds strange but I chalk it up to not really having a sense of time once the season hits. This is just one of the hundreds (verging on thousands) of reasons I'm super excited about the launch of PrettyBird app!

If you're a makeup lover like me and want to be able to get your makeup done professionally while on the go, you should really check it out.

Better yet, if you're a MUA and looking to do a little freelance, now is your chance to be your own boss.

I wrote a post last week with more info, make sure you take a peek!
