From Head To Toe: Everything You Can Be Doing For A Happy Healthy Lifestyle

A happy, healthy lifestyle is something many people strive for on a day to day basis, and we should!

Not only do you think about the future and your health going forward, but how you feel in the present. Too many people are struggling with depression and anxiety, along with other issues, and the lifestyle you lead can make a difference even if it's a small one.

But it’s something many people want but don’t have a clue how to get started.

It’s actually more simple than people realize, and a lot of people (including me) don't take time for little changes.

So think of it this way: a happy, healthy lifestyle is a choice. It’s something you do daily. It’s about a collection of small things that when put together make a big impact on you as a person. Making it possible to become a better version of yourself. With that in mind, here are some of the simple things you could do right now to set you on the right track for your happy, healthy lifestyle.

Drinking more water

We should be be drinking at least two litres of water per day.

This is the recommended amount that our body needs to function. But many of us don’t manage even half of that...I know I don't.

Instead of drinking water we drink other things like fizzy caffeinated drinks (hello pop!) or tea and coffee. While these things are fine in moderation, we shouldn’t be surviving on them fully.

A good intake of water can have many health benefits to your life:

  • can help with skin tone and keeping your skin hydrated. It replaces fluid lost everyday in your body.
  • can be a detox to help rid your body of bad toxins.
  • helps with your mood
  • aids a more restful sleep at night
  • increases your energy levels.

It’s quite remarkable what it can do for you especially because it's water of all things. If you struggle to drink the amount of water you should try and keep a water bottle close by, either place it on your desk at work or keep one in your hand bag while out and about.

Being more active

Increasing your physical activity is another way to you can improve your health and lifestyle, and you would think I would take my own advice.

Having a good level of fitness can make you feel good in yourself by lifting your mood but it can also increase your confidence levels as you start to see your body change and tone up.

While it doesn't have to mean heading to the gym every day and getting sweaty, sometimes that doesn’t appeal to people (like me) you can just increase your level of activity over time. A great tip is to get out walking more and you can even buy yourself a pedometer (old school) or fitbit that records your steps and set yourself a challenge. Simple changes like walking somewhere instead of driving or taking the dog out for an extra walk could be all it takes to make you more fit annnd in turn make you feel a little cheery.

Eating a balanced diet

No lifestyle change would be complete without considering the food you eat.

As much as it would be great to survive on sushi takeout and McDons, you do need to consider what you nourish your body with.

Your body needs a good dose of protein, carbohydrate, vitamins and nutrients to function to it’s best capability. So try and have a healthy balanced diet and yes this will include a good dose of fruit and vegetables. We can all have treats, and life would be boring without a little indulgence every now and again but try and keep things in perspective which is always tricky.

After a while, you will begin to notice the change in yourself and food has a very big part in that.

Taking care of your teeth

We get one set of teeth in our lifetime so it’s beyond important we take care of them.

Without proper care or hygiene, they can begin to discolour which is not only unhealthy but not the most attractive...can we agree on that?

Over time your teeth can decay and bring on further health problems like infection, this is why having a regular routine of teeth brushing and flossing is vital for good care. That, and regular trips to your dentist.

A simple way to keep on top of good dental hygiene is to set up a plan for dental care. It’s vital to have insurance in place, and they can bring the cost down of regular trips, you can grab it from Carefree Dental.

Visiting the hairdresser (often!)

Your hair can be one of the things that you feel sad about, especially if it has grown out of a style or has split ends.

Without regular trims and care your hair can become flat, boring and less full of life. We all know I change my hair colour all the time and really it has about the same affect on me as a spa day.

You don’t need to go as often as some hairdressers recommended which is six weeks but heading to a one every few months could be the key to keeping your hair in glossy and healthy condition.

It's seriously one of the big things that can impact your confidence and happiness, so keep on top of it!

Keeping your skin care in order

Your skin can be the number giveaway of a bad diet and lifestyle.

It can appear lifeless, dull and dry and once again this can impact your confidence and self-esteem. So while you are working on what you put into your body and how you use it, a great thing to do is keep on top of your skin care routines.

Making sure you cleanse regularly, remove all makeup daily and moisturize as often as you can. No skincare routines need to be expensive or complex, just a simple, consistent routine should be enough to inject some life and personality back into your skin allowing you to have a positive and healthy glow.

Having a positive mindset

Finally, a great way to keep things going the way they should is to have a positive mindset. I know, how seems easy and it is easier said than done sometimes,

Negativity can have a big impact on your health and lifestyle and believe me I know it’s hard to get out of the habit of negativity. But a simple trick is to try and turn those thoughts into more positive notions, it’s all about being grateful for the good things in your life and not focusing on the bad.
