I need you to use your imagination for this post. Why? Because while this would be a super cute date outfit, and if Romeo appears than I'll take it for a test drive, but until then - it was just a shoot with my girl Vicki, the blogger behind Florals + Teacups.
If there's one thing I've learned about dates over the year it's that you want to be comfortable.
There's a good chance you're going to be a bundle of nerves anyway, so you might as well wear something you don't have to be worrying about all night. Save that skirt you have that you constantly think about how it looks for much later in the game, and just trust me and wear something you don't doubt.
I love off the shoulder dresses, but because I have shoulders that slope downwards it's hard to find one that fits right. That, paired with me having zero hips, makes them tricky. But, I scored with this eyelet black dress from Gap!
The shoulder bit is elasticized so it stays put (ish, this dress runs large and I could have gone with the l instead of xl!), it has a tie to give you a bit of shape and, yes, it has pockets. The dream.
This is one of two dresses that I recently bought from Gap and my first purchases ever from the store!
I honestly don't know what took me so long, I know it was partially because I had no idea I could fit into their sizes but I'm extremely happy to share that they size up to an xxl, which isn't as inclusive as I would like but not bad! Like I said, both the dresses actually ran a little larger on me than expected so I could have gone to a large, but I went with the xl. I'm really excited to try to buy some more Gap dresses this summer, hopefully a white one for an upcoming special event!
For this whole look, I really kept the easy and comfy trend going beauty wise.
In the summer, I love minimal makeup. You all know I like to be glam but the heat isn't always your friend. I actually used the Bite Beauty Multisticks in Cashew and Gelato on my eyes, lips and cheeks and then the Rose Petal gloss on my lips to kick it up a notch. They were all part of the Bite Beauty Love set they released for summer 2017 and I am oh so glad I picked it up.
Add in highlighter and bronzer, I was set. The high (messy) bun is courtesy of a last minute hair change, but it's a style I wear all summer - especially when I'm running late but with a dress, it does make you feel a little more fancy.
Now, of course, the details.
I kept all jewellery off (I never do know what necklaces to wear with off the shoulder styles, feel free to share some recos!) and had a clutch and heels. I know, heels and I don't mix all that often but, rest assured, a good chunky heel is as comfy as a flat and takes you up that extra notch when you need the confidence.
The clutch is a staple of mine from Coach (they now have a huge sale on, as I'm writing this and browsing for bags I don't need) and the shoes I picked up from trusty ol' Payless. My absolute favourite part of them is the gold detailing on the heel - adds what I would call a perfect amount of luxury but also slightly edgy, I dig it.
Stay tuned for a super casual Gap dress look next week!
