A few months ago I was very excited to share that I had been featured in The Wedding Planner Magazine as a beauty blogger, offering my tips on finding the perfect shade of lipstick for your wedding day. As a lipstick lover on a normal day, I can't imagine how big of a decision this must be for a beauty loving bride! Nonetheless, I chatted with Sarah Zoschke about my take!
This isn't exactly what was in the magazine - it's my uncut answers! Think of it like bonus content...that's always fun, right?
If you're going to skip the Q&A, at least read this bit. Still Bri here, Sarah's Qs shall be bolded.
On your wedding day the last thing you want to be worrying about, because there will be a lot on your mind, is how your lipstick is doing. Before you decide on your lippie for your big day have a few picked out for day-long testing. Make sure you’re comfortable in them, see how many times you have to reapply, and snap a few photos to see how they look on camera. And don’t be afraid to swap in a bold colour for your reception, always fun to change it up for the night of celebrating.
What do you think the top shades of spring/summer 2017 are?
Pink is back again for spring, I don’t think it ever leaves, and it’s all the hues.
The soft pastel pinks, bright bubblegum’s and even the deep fuchsias, my current favourite of the pink family now that spring is on its way. A more natural way to wear a pink lip would be a dusty rose – depending on your skin tone it might be the perfect ‘your lip but better’ shade, a great colour to swipe on for that walk up the aisle if you’re normally not a girl who wears lipstick.
Orange is a beauty trend that’s taken over more than just the lips but eyes and cheeks too! I’m not daring enough to rock it (yet) but I do own an orange lipstick by YSL. If you love the idea but want to tone it down a bit, try a peach or coral shade. Both are still on trend and flattering for different skin tones without going too far out of your beauty comfort zone.
If you want to keep it classic though – you never go wrong with the perfect red, the lipstick shade I always make my way back to every season.
What are some great lipstick brads you use?
My drugstore favourites are NYX, Maybelline, wet n wild and Quo. They each have several collections to suit your glossy or matte needs and they don’t disappoint your lips, or your bank account.
Colourpop is also a great find (online) that always has great deals and covers you from the liner to the final lip product.
But if you spend most on your time browsing at Sephora I love Too Faced – specifically their Melted Matte Liquified Long Wear Matte Lipstick collection that comes in a range of shades from nudes to a more bold look.
Treating yourself, especially for your wedding, is always okay in my books. If you don’t mind splurging, one of my favourite shades of all time that is from Marc Jacobs. Kiss Kiss Bang Bang from the Le Marc Lip Crème Lipstick collection is a stunning baked rose that lasts all day and manages to look amazing while doing it. And, one of the most important factors in my lipstick wear, it feels great on and keeps lips in a lovely (kissable) condition.
Matte or Gloss, and which is the best brand of both?
I am partial to a matte lip for its ability to stay on longer and not having to worry about touch-ups throughout the day and right now the Melted Matte Liquified Long Wear Matte Lipsticks get my vote for gorgeous pigmentation, comfort and staying power.
I have yet to find the perfect gloss that has colour but doesn’t leave my lips sticky. Instead, when I’m not feeling the matte, I go for a cream or semi-matte finish that has a slight shine to it. My Maybelline liquid lipstick in Nude Flush from their Vivid Matte Liquid collection has just the right amount of shine and colour for me. Just be careful of glosses and gowns – you don’t want your lips to transfer to your wedding dress.
