Recipe: Overnight Oats

Looks yummy, right?

Looks yummy, right?

I’m not the best cook, at all. So when I stumbled upon this beyond easy breaky idea that requires no cooking at all I was pumped. They’re tasty, easy, customizable and very filling. The perfect breaky for when you have an early morning and a long day.

Not pricey either, bonus!

What you need:

  • 1/2 cup of oats (not instant, and I used steel cut)
  • 3/4 cup of ‘milk’ beverage (I used vanilla soy milk, extra tasty)
  • 2 Tbsp. of chia seeds
  • A dash of cinnamon
  • Toppings (for this one I used a banana and a handful of blueberries)
  • Jar (or any container but mason jars are too fun)

What you do:

Combine the oats, soy milk, chia seeds in the jar, mix it up real good! Add in half the banana with the dash of cinnamon, give it one last mix and either mash the banana in or leave it sliced. That’s it. I know, insane right?

It's going to look strange before it all soaks in...and that's okay.

Leave in the fridge for at least 3 hours but yes, they’re called overnight oats for a reason! In the morning I add the other half of the banana and the blueberries. You can leave the blueberries in overnight but I found they got a little mushy.

There are a ton of variations on this online! They’re awesome if you’re watching your weight purely because they keep you full for longer, which doesn’t hurt. Next week I’ll be trying a pumpkin spice variety and I can’t wait, it’ll be like pumpkin pie in a jar.

Have a try & let me know what you think!
