Liquid Lipsticks: An on-going love affair

Ahhh liquid lipstick, a love of mine.

Well I love every lipstick, I’m sure you’ve caught onto that, but the liquid ones are so fun. I’m very fond of matte lips (gloss still gives my high school horror flashbacks) and I have them in nude and bold shades.

There are a ton out there now but I have four in my makeup bag that I absolutely adore, and I want to share them with you!

Lime Crime – Velvetine
Ah, my original fave. This lipstick is what made me fall in love with the liquid turned matte lip. I have two from their Velvetine collection, Riot & Red Velvet.

The Good:

The Lime Crime has a cult following, and for good reason. It stays put all day, dries matte pretty quickly, and has unreal colour that goes on evenly. The smell is sweet, and could be a little overpowering but I don’t mind it. And it’s vegan!

The Bad:

It is expensive, especially with the shipping. It does feel a tad dry, but a little balm in the middle of the lip helps.

The Verdict:

Worth. It. I love Lime Crime, and they last so long! I can’t wait to try new colours…once I can afford to.

Maybelline – Color Senstaional Vivid Matte Liquid
I didn’t expect to love this lippy as much as I do. The Color Sensational Vivid Matte Liquid shade I have is Nude Thrill, and it’s the best for everyday wear.

The Good:

The feel is just so, so nice. The creamy texture actually keeps your lips moisturized, and I know a lot of brands promise this but it does! The sticking power is okay, but the colour is super even. The price is great too, especially if you can grab it when it’s on sale!

The Bad:

It isn’t matte, at least not to my standard. It’s certainly not a gloss but it does keep a slight shine. While the overall colour sticks, it does rub off say on a coffee mug.

The Verdict:

Texture wise, it’s my favourite. I only have one from the collection and I 100% want more.

NYX – Soft Matte LIp Cream
I have this lip cream in Abu Dhabi and as I’ve said before, it’s the perfect nude. NYX’s Soft Matte Lip Cream is small but mighty. It applies evenly, dries matte, and lasts allllllll day.

The Good:

The most inexpensive of my current four faves, this lipstick is affordable even when it’s not on sale. It glides on easy, goes even and is wonderfully matte. The shade I have right now is nude, but I’m excited to dry a bolder shade to see how it holds up throughout the day.

The Bad:

It is a little drying, more so than the Lime Crime. You’re aware it’s there, whereas I don’t even notice Lime Crime. I do wish it came in a little bit bigger of a bottle, but that’s just me being picky.

The Verdict:

I’d get your hands on one of these bad boys ASAP for the summer. As always, I can’t wait to buy more colours.

NYX – Liquid Suede Cream Lipstick
After trying the other NYX lippy, I had to get my hands on a Liquid Suede Cream Lipstick. I picked up Cherry Skies (it was a long, hard choice) and the colour is stunning. It’s waterproof, matte and it stays on for the entire day (even through an apple!).

The Good:

This colour! It’s a gorgeous dark red, feels vampy and I love it. The sticking power is real with this one AND with a bigger bottle than my other NYX choice, it’s a great deal for the still inexpensice price.

The Bad:

The colour is beautiful, but you have to apply quite a few layers to make it even. It is matte, but it has a thick, sticky texture.

The Verdict:

I don’t think I’ll buy another one of these, unless it’s a really good sale! I loved the colour and staying power, but the texture is just not nice.

The Overall Love (right now):

With the price, texture, and colour…I’m going to go with NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream. I love Lime Crime so much, but the price is unaffordable for a student such as myself. And with this NYX, I’m spending less but still getting an amazing lippy.

Have a lippy you think I need to get my hands on? Let me know what it is! I’m always interested in trying new things…especially when it come to beauty products.
