Five Favourites: Face Masks

Hi, my name is Brianne and I’m a face mask addict.

Thankfully it’s an addiction that just leads to glowy skin and a slightly sad bank account so it could be worse. Narrowing it down to five for this post was crazy hard and I will probably add more related posts as we go – a weekly face mask post, perhaps?

But for now, let’s chat about this five. In no particular order of course and there’s an option for every skin type & budget!

The only hybrid on the list, this Polish from Dr Roebuck’s is both a scrub and a mask.

Why I love it:
I’m a sucker for products that can do more than one thing, really makes it feel like you’re getting your moneys worth you know? I have tried scrub/mask combos before but I love Polish because it doesn’t feel too harsh on my skin! Bonus: it only has 11 ingredients, less is better when it comes to skincare!

How to:
I only use this once a week, but you can do 2-3 times! I just have a lot of masks, I like to have them all be a little loved. You apply to a damp face, allow to sink in and form a light mask for 2 to 3 minutes and then a gentle massage before you rinse off and carry on with the rest of your routine.

Sheet masks are not for the faint of heart – if only because unwrapping these slippery fellas is amusingly tricky. The Moisture Bomb from Garnier is so perfect for dry skin, especislly after that winter weather.

Why I love it:
Sheet masks might be tricky but they pack a punch and this one is no different. This one actually keeps you moisturized for a good 24 hours with hyaluronic acid which really helps your skin look radiant and keep the moisture in. Plus, it’s less than five bucks – wasn’t kidding when I said any budget.

How to:
Take off your makeup or just cleanse your face of the stuff that’s built up all day and slap this bad boy on with the blue facing outwards! After 15 minutes or so you can peel it off, and just rub the rest of the serum-like liquid on in.

I love, love, love Vichy. I have yet to not like a product of theirs and this Double Glow Peel mask is no exception.

Why I love it:
It’s pink! Okay just kidding, but it is just a darn pretty mask. This one goes on like a jelly and then as it dries it exfoliates, it’s a really cool sensation. It tingles too, which I love. If you want to get really into it, it has volcanic stone and AHA to help with the peel, which keeps skin glowing and evens out your complexion but isn’t harsh like a chemical peel; Hint: head to your local Shoppers and you’ll find individual packs of all three Vichy masks to buy and try, then commit to a glass jar like I did.

How to:
Cleanse and apply the peel onto your face (be careful and avoid the eyes) and leave for five minutes for the fancy chemical action of AHA, then gently massage with circular movements to exfoliate and rinse! This is just a 1-2 times a week kind of mask.

Okay this one, if I had to choose, is my favourite of the five – I think. It really is a hard choice but I’m obsessed with Clinique’s Even Better face mask that moisturizes and brightens.

Why I love it:
My sister actually picked this out for me when Shoppers had one of their points redeeming events and I am so glad she did. This mask is just a luxury, and it leaves your skin oh so soft! You’re only supposed to use it 2-3 times a week, and this is one I verge on overusing…which I should stop because it’s the most expensive one on the list. But it’s worth it (especially if you have points to spend!)

How to:
Okay this is the lazy masker’s dream – put it on a cleansed face, leave for about 15 minutes and then wipe off with a tissue. That is all.

Lastly, the oh-so-trendy peel off charcoal mask. I’ve tried a handful, and this Luminizing Charcoal peel off mask from masque bar by Look Beauty is the only one I’ve repurchased.

Why I love it:
Instant results – you seriously glow after this bad boy. Sure, you see all the guck coming out and that’s fun but I’m in it for the glow baby, always. Since it comes with three packs, for under ten bucks, it’s a steal since a single pack will last you at least two times!

How to:
If it’s hurting you like those viral videos, you’re doing it wrong. Anything that goes on your face shouldn’t hurt, and this one has never hurt me and my sensitive skin. It is goopy so be careful, but you apply on a cleansed face (thicker = easier to remove, but don’t go too thick that it doesn’t dry!) and feel it off after around 15 minutes.
