Five Favourites: NYX Cosmetics

When NYX touched down at my local Shoppers Drug Mart I was thrilled because who doesn’t love affordable makeup? No one, I know.

So imagine my excitement when I got to connect with this awesome brand at Gen Beauty and when a bag of goodies was sent my way!

I spent a better part of my day playing with the products, and while I already have quite a few in my makeup bag on top of these, I’ve narrowed it down to my top five…it was tricky.

Let’s get to it!

The NYX Total Control Drop Foundation is a gem.

I have combo skin, and this wore nicely and kept a slight dew finish (which could easily be fixed with powder if you’re all about the matte). It does claim to be matte, but I didn’t find that.

If you want more coverage, you add more drops – super blend-able, build-able, and easy to work with. I was sent a shade that would suit me much better with a tan, but I was surprised how it still worked on me! Luckily, I’m getting a spray tan tomorrow and then this will be perfect!

The shade range isn’t huge which would be my only con, only 12 online, and it retails for $16.

Slightly cheating on this one, but I can’t help it. NYX knows what’s up when it comes to lippies!

My current fave three are three different formulas: Lip Lingerie (which is matte), Butter Gloss and Intense Butter Gloss. As you can tell, I really dig the nudes – but they come in a ton of shades and the pigmentation is amazing!

I like to layer all three for an ombre/3D type effect. Okay, it just looks cool.

The shades I used are (in the order of the products): Babydoll, Tres Leches and Creme Brulee.

Can’t. Get. Enough.

The Lingerie is $9 and the glosses are $8 – amazing prices in my humble opinion!

The Rocker Chic Palette comes in three different collections for $21 and I have California Dreaming!

Immediately I was drawn towards the warmer shades – especially that rusty peach! All the shades build easy, have great pigmentation and three are shimmery, two are matte!

This Ombr√© Blush intimidated me at first, but it is such a gem. And not as scary as it looks!

It gives me a radiant flush that is perfect for summer, but might be a little harsh for winter – in this shade, but they have eight in total! I think the nude shades would make great bronzers as well.

They’re a solid size for $13, and the lighter colour from the fade at the top adds a nice highlight.

My favourite NYX product EVER! I don’t care if I sound dramatic, I am in love with this palette.

The Strobe of Genius Illuminating Palette is a highligher lover’s HEAVEN! And $27 is amazing! I’m a little heartbroken becase I dropped it BUT I only lost one shade! And it’s the yellow, gold-y one that was the only one I wasn’t a huge fan of (but used it on my eyes!).

But normally, yes, seven shades! And I’m actually going to use the NYX image to show you what’s up:

(Special shout out to their Concealer as well because it’s bomb but it’s five faves not six!)

Have you tried anything from NYX? let me know what I should pick up next!

I had that Strobe of Genius palette for literally 6 months in a drawer before I used it and I was VERY VERY SURPRISED. It packs quite a punch for being such a cheap (Relatively speaking compared to Becca or YSL or something) palette!
