Mascara, probably my biggest beauty weakness since day one. Okay maybe tied with lipstick…how is a girl to choose?
I am very much one of those bveauty lovers that isn’t loyal to just one brand. I’m always trying new things and certainly have a bunch of fave mascaras on rotation. But Benefit Cosmetics has always been a favourite. I’ve picked favourites from Benefit before, but today is all about a showdown between three products and yup, they’re mascaras.
I’m a tried and true They’re Real fan, since the beginning, but I’m always curious to try out what’s new on the market.
And it’s funny because after BADgal BANG was released, I tried it a few times and could not stand it. It was so hyped up all over social media that I was confused!
Flash forward to today and I’ve changed my mind, but let’s not spoil the fun.
What They Promise:
So three mascaras, three looks…although they’re similar!
They’re Real lengthens, curls, volumizes, lifts and separates. It’s perfect for a “no makeup” day, my fave look for the spring and summer. No smudges, no problem.
Roller Lash packs a special punch with the Hook ‘n’ Roll™ brush grabs, separates, lifts and curls…while the instant curve-setting formula holds for 12 hours. Plus it contains provitamin B5 and serin, ingredients known for their lash-conditioning benefits (never a bad thing!). Such a great pick if you have long, but straight, lashes. Which I do!
And the latest release that took the beauty world by storm: BADgal BANG! Also with the most promises, a volumising mascara creates MASSIVE volume without weighing down lashes. The gravity-defying formula contains aero-particles, one of the lightest known materials, derived from space technology. This innovative intense pitch-black mascara layers easily for bigger & BIGGER impact. Its custom big Slimpact! brush is streamlined to reach root-to-tip, corner-to-corner, upper & lower lashes for BIG VOLUME WITH 360° REACH! — that’s a lot to take in, I know.
How They Look:
So, turns out I’m horrible at shooting eyes.
Like really, really bad. Don’t focus too much on it, and teach me your ways!
None of them smudge, they don’t clump and they’re the perfect deep black.
On the left: BADgal BANG! Certainly provides the length, doesn’t weight down the lashes at all, but I’m not seeing much volume. Which I prefer – but I know it boasts all the volume so if you want huge lashes this might not fit what you want. I also didn’t curl my lashes beforehand, so I was excited that it still lifted the lashes.
On the right: Roller Lash! It added the curl, but not the length. The difference was actually so noticeable! I didn’t curl my lashes this side either, which I do daily but I love that I don’t have to with these mascaras.
I am not a fan of Roller Lash, but I was surprised that I ended up liking BADgal Bang! after a few uses. It gives a false lash effect, think extensions over a full set of lashes, that I am totally into.
But They’re Real is still my fave.
Here I am wearing a few coats, paired with Stila’s Kohl liner, to really make the eyes pop.
Which I will never, ever be over in a beauty look.
If you want natural lashes, albeit totally buildable for a little drama, then go for They’re Real.
BADgal Bang is a step up, but I do find it a tad harder to keep lashes separated – I think it’s the ultra condensed brush!
I would pass on Roller Lash, as I think the other two do a better job.
Truly though, as usual, Benefit is killin’ it.
